A budget-friendly room re-design is on the front burner in the Execumama Enterprises/Voz Visual household this fall. Our 6 and 4 year old daughters have grown less than fond of my design style: non-existent.
I used our company names above to illustrate an important point. My husband Kris and I never factored in anything more than the basics—beds and dressers—for the girls’ room because it seemed like such a frivolous thing to add to our budget. As our companies continue to expand, we are much more strategic in our spending approach. We use our income not only to maintain our household, but to sponsor events for exposure and to purchase tools that help with our work. It simply never occurred to us to spend money on any “fancy crap” for the girls’ room. Besides, as an ex-HGTV junkie (not so much any more simply because I don’t have the time to watch the shows), I felt certain that the “budget design” route was still more than we’d be willing to spend!
Let’s be real, shall we! What many folks called “low budget” is not exactly agreeable to me. A $1000 room make-over is not my idea of low budget! Hell, a $500 room re-do is not low budget for a young couple with two businesses, two babies, and a partridge in a pear tree—you get me? So, rather than spend $1000 on one bedroom, we opted to spend $250 on the room, and put the other $750 toward the growth of our legacy! Hello!
Heart of Decor probably didn’t know what they were getting into when they watched my audition tape and agreed to do it for the then-undisclosed budget. They had no fair warning, no pre-set guidelines, just an audition tape from someone they knew in high school, who is know knocking on their virtual door, with a “Help me, please!” sign! They were gracious enough to come to our rescue, and allow you to watch the process!
Over the next month, Heart of Decor will be deal-scouting online, in stores, and in our garage (repurposing is Queen in our house), and we want you to tag along for the ride.
Here’s the Project Overview:
What: Re-decorate one bedroom that sleeps two girls, ages 6 and 4.
Inclusions: New (Low VOC) paint, furniture, wall art, shelving, and decor.
Our budget: An ambitious $250.00 (or less).
